About us
Surul Suprity Society is a Non-government organization for rural development and socio-economical upliftment of the villagers in Surul. Our Society has been established in 1998 and registered in 2001. In 2001 the organization has been recognized as a registered NGO under West Bengal Society Registration Act, 1961 and u/s 12AA of the Income Tax Act 1961 and also earned the certificate for Exemption u/s 80G of I.T. Act. 1961.

Surul Suprity Society initially started working in association with Nehru Yuva Kendra Suri, Birbhum in and around the tribal areas of Santiniketan. We received the District Best Club award, under Nehru Yuva Kendra, Birbhum, Govt. of India. Later we become associated to NABARD as one of its CDAs (Cluster Development Agency). From 2008 to 2013 we worked according to the project line ‘Tourism cum Handicraft Cluster in and around Santiniketan’ under NABARD. During this interval and even after, we are working for the betterment of the SHGs, Villagers and Farmers. We held in our Society complex various training programmes, cultural functions and seminars. Our Society is working with NABARD, Bose Institute, Kolkata, BIRD, Bolpur, Bharatiya Suramondal Academy, Santiniketan, Central Board for Workers Education (CBWE) and other organizations.

- Decision-Making Power: Empowered 10 artisans to make informed decisions about their businesses and livelihoods.
Community Development
- Job Creation: Created 345 employment opportunities for rural communities, reducing reliance on agriculture as the sole source of income.
- Economic Growth: Contributed to the economic growth of rural areas by fostering local entrepreneurship around 6kms..
- Social Cohesion: Fostered a sense of community among 530 artisans through collective action and shared experiences.
Cultural Preservation
- Safeguarding Traditions: Safeguarded and promoted traditional crafts of West Bengal, ensuring their continued practice and appreciation.
- Cultural Revival: Contributed to the revival and revitalization of traditional art forms.
- Cultural Identity: Helped maintain and strengthen the cultural identity of the region.
